IB Pet Inc. was founded in 2009 by owner Lori Smith in Imperial Beach, CA.  Lori's interest in pet nutrition stemmed from caring for her two Golden Retrievers, Tanner and Cali, and her cat Dixie.  As a puppy Tanner suffered with stomach and skin problems.  Following countless visits to the vet with no prevail, Lori started to do her own research on pet nutrition. She found with a better diet she was able to remedy many of Tanner’s health issues. Lori wanted to create a place where pet parents could shop for better quality food and products for their pets.

As IB Pet grew Lori hired people that shared her passion for animals and pet nutrition. Today 50+ employees support Lori in carrying out her mission to educate pet parents in proper nutrition, care and a healthy lifestyle for their pets. 

 

In April 2015, the IB Pet Chula Vista store open at 575 Telegraph Canyon Rd.  

 

In March of 2018, the IB Pet Rancho San Diego store opened at 3729 Avocado Blvd. 

 

Tanner passed in August of 2022 after living 16 long years. Cali passed a year later in September 2023 also at 16 years of age. Lori’s cat Dixie passed away at 18 years of age in April 2022.

 

Today, Lori is a Mom of 3 and has a new golden retriever named Whisky.  She also cares for her friend’s 13 year old Corgi, Sandy.
